Sticky 2011 year in review: insiders, interns, Knights, pirates & start-ups
2011 has been a big year here at Sticky with a range of exciting new projects and successful client campaigns. Here are some of the more notable moments and initiatives.
Urban Insider launches
Late in 2010 we decided to revisit an old idea to create a cool online magazine for the region. The result was Urban Insider which launched in January 2011 as the “insider’s guide to the city.” What started as a side project with a mix of crowd sourced content and editorial has become a very popular website as the year has progressed. We are now mapping out expansion plans for 2012.
Hunter Sports Group Knights Bid
The team at Sticky were proud to be part of the successful bid by Hunter Sports Group for the Newcastle Knights NRL Club. During a hectic couple of months Hunter Sports Group engaged Sticky for a series of projects around the bid. These included the Knights Vote Yes website, design of the members limited edition jersey and information brochures, and a “mini stadium” complete with grass and “scoreboard” visuals for the press conferences.
The Sticky Intern Program
Another idea from late 2010 was to create an intern program to expose communications and marketing students to life in a vibrant digital agency. We thought we’d give it a run for 12 weeks. Well, the intern program was so popular and successful that we have run it continually since November 2010 and will keep it running in 2012. So far 12 interns have been through the program gaining first hand experience and learning the latest online marketing skills. Several have already gone on to new careers in the industry.
Lake Macquarie City Council wins award
We were very proud to be behind LMCC’s waste management campaign in 2010/11. The campaign covered a range of media from TV, press, direct mail, live appearances, website and Twitter and featured Arrrthur the Pirate telling locals to say ARRR to waste: Avoid, Reduce, Re-use & Recycle. Lake Macquarie City Council ended up winning the Excellence in Communication Award between 150 local governments and shires across NSW and are presented by the Local Government and Shires Association at the annual Local Government Week event. The awards judges said, “The campaign was well planned, extensive and achieved long term environmentally sustainable outcomes for the community of Lake Macquarie. The depth and breadth of the advertising campaign was imperative to ensure a prompt take up of the community for the programme to be effective”.
NLYZR launches
A long-running project has been the development, refinement and eventual commercial launch of our search engine optimisation tool NLYZR. First conceived in 2009, NLYZR has undergone serious testing and development prior to an international launch in September 2011. To date its been a great start with members joining NLYZR from UK, France, Brazil, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia. We honestly believe that using NLYZR is the easiest way to have your website ranking high in Google searches and now our members are enjoying these benefits. We have more exciting plans for NLYZR in 2012.
And there’s more…
Along the way we’ve been able to help ACRF raise valuable funds for cancer research, assist Promax with their successful expansion into the USA, design and launch branding for forthcoming broadband service Countrytell, and help national credit union Community CPS engage with customers and the community via new online strategies.
2012 promises to be just as exciting with the expansion of many of these initiatives and some big new projects coming to fruition.
If your organisation is looking for better results next year, or you feel its time to overhaul old ideas and totally rethink your marketing, then maybe its time to get Sticky too. We’d love to hear from you.
